Wattle & Daub

Wattle and daub is one of the traditional infills  for timber framed buildings. The wattles are the woven sticks and the daub is the sticky mix, generally a clay/earth base with straw and sand, used to fill between and over the wattles. Most wattle and daub can be repaired as long as the wattles are in sound condition. Where this is not possible, we can infill with new wattles and  new daub using the same traditional materials. Once dry, the area can be plastered or rendered in lime. We would also use wattle and daub to infill if timber frames have been repaired or new structures built.

Pargetting

The art of decorative plasterwork. The designs are built up by hand using a lime plaster. Some buildings have a very simple repeat pattern of lines or dots whilst others have intricate designs, often depicting animals, fruit and foliage.

We are able to offer repairs to existing pargetting work as well as creating new works of art. These can be external, internal or on portable frames to hang. We can offer design advice or work with designs offered by our customers.

Flintwork Repair & Repointing

We work to repair existing flint work and to construct new flint walls using lime mortar. This approach not only enhances the durability of the flint but also helps to maintain its integrity, preventing breakage or flint loss which often occurs when a cement mortar is used.

Brickwork Repair & Repointing

Repairing existing brickwork and constructing new structures, where possible, using reclaimed bricks. We also source handmade bricks for projects that demand a unique touch. We use non-hydraulic lime mortar for repairs and repointing.
